Watermelon the Pig-Rescue Pet of the Week – VA Pet Photography
This week I had the opportunity to meet and photograph Watermelon the Pig. What a blast!!! This girl is smart, sassy and full of spunk. She is currently available for adoption at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
Pigs are highly intelligent animals and as they are quite trainable, they can make excellent pets when given the right environment. Watermelon is a one year old pot-bellied pig who was surrendered to the shelter because her owners were not able to provide Watermelon with the space or the time for training that she needed. While mostly an outdoor pig, Watermelon does like to come inside when the weather is cold. She is fully housebroken and trained to use a littler box.
Watermelon is very inquisitive. She loves people and attention as well as just sniffing and exploring around new areas. She also loves to learn new things, if there is food involved in the training process. Trainer Renee Amodeo of Do Rite Doggie has been working on her leash walking skills. Watermelon has been accepting of the leash as long as you don’t try to pull her along. If you do, she will tell you in no uncertain terms that she does not like to be led!
Watermelon loves her snacks. Some of her favorites include peanuts, cheese and of course…watermelon!
